My name is Jessica Arkeketa. My grandmother has been diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer’s. I moved back home in May to help tend to her. As one of her care takers, its been hard to accept. The journey has not been easy watching a loved one age. I thought to myself…. I want to remember these days with her, for better or for worse. I have dedicated myself to writing this blog for 365 days. I might not seem much to someone but it means a lot to me. Anyone that knows me, knows that is a commitment. I can only hope to reach out to people going through similar things. I like to tell stories from my childhood with my grandmother. Once I told her about my idea she wanted me to start telling stories from her childhood as well. That’s when I came up with the idea of Memoirs with Hokte. Hokte is her nickname her family calls. It is also the word for woman in the Muscogee (Creek) language, which she is a tribal member of.
I try to attaché meaningful and useful articles for people going through the same things. No journey is easy but I always try to remained positive.
Mvto for your time!
